Birthdancing® is an exciting new approach to natural childbirth & maternal fitness. The basic vocabulary of movements is found in the ancient art of belly dance. Circles, crescents, figure 8's, shimmies, waves and spirals have been used for millennia to facilitate natural childbirth. These movements, practiced to music, are a powerful and soothing tool for the mother and baby throughout all stages of pregnancy, labor and birth. They stretch, strengthen and tone the abdominal area, pelvis and back, alleviating stress and tension. When practiced during labor, these movements produce a rhythmic, gentle, soothing effect which reduces discomfort and promotes a natural unfolding of the labor process.
This workshop is designed especially for pregnant women, birth coaches, midwives and women planning to get pregnant, but the process of birth is not just about babies. New beginnings such as jobs, education, relationships and creative pursuits are all things that need to be born. This workshop is designed to nurture those pregnant moments as well, and facilitate their birth.
Format and Requirements: This program is designed for women as a one or two day workshop. A large empty room is required and a sound system for tapes and CD's. Students should wear comfortable loose clothing and be barefooted. Veils are provided. No dance experience is needed.
About the Instructor: Zohar is a Middle Eastern dancer, teacher, choreographer and event producer. She has performed internationally for over 25 years and is listed in Who’s Who in Entertainment. She teaches and lectures on the history and art of Belly Dancing, Birthdancing® and Goddess Dancing. Zohar is a certified Dancing Thru Pregnancy® instructor. Her workshops and sacred dance concerts are presented at museums, new age centers and spiritual retreats. She has produced shows for Warner Brothers and Disney and has performed at Radio City Music Hall and The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has hosted her own cable television show.
